BUTCHERS' .UNION FINED. By telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 15. The Butchers' Assistants' Union was fined £2O for striking. A number of slaughtermen were fined £3 each for stopping work in sympathy with the butchers. COUNTRY WORKERS' WAGES. Dmiedin, March 15. Representation was made to the Minister of Works by the Otago branch of the New Zealand' Workers' Union in connection with the wages and conditions of the Public Works' employees on day labor asking that they be placed in a position conforming with that of town workers regarding the purchase of goods or given an increased wage as compensation for country prices. The Minister replied that the question of increasing the wages cannot be dealt with piecemeal, but the question as a whole is being considered by Cabinet.
