POST AND TELEGRAPH.
DEMAND FURTHER INCREMENTBy Telegraph.—Press Association. Grey mouth, March 13. At a meeting of the West Coast section of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association, held last night, the following resolution was passed: This meeting of the West Coast officers, while duly appreciating past efforts to improve the service, considers those efforts have not been commensurate with the rise in the rost of living, and that further increment, including casual employees, is now necessary. We demand that the Prime Minister should make officially known the Chief Justice's .decision re war bonuses.
A largely attended meeting of railway officers unanimously passed a resolution: That this meeting of representatives of the Westlaiul branch of the Railway Officers' Institute expresses dissatisfaction over the interim finding of the Wages Board, wherein Mr. Justice Stringer admits there is over 100 per cent increase in the cost of living but only recommends the paltry allowance of about 50 per cent, additional increase. About 15 per cent has already been granted under last year's amended schedule. This meeting urges the executive to adhere to its demands for a 20 per cent increase in existing salaries up to £350 per annum. We pledge ourselves to back tlieiri in any action they may deem necessary to obtain this reasonable request, and we call on the executive to form a deputation containing a member from each district to wait on Cabinet, in conjunction wltn the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and the E.F.C.A., to urge increased pay in keeping with its original demands.
