According to the latest reports from Portugal the Cabinet resigned owing to the Chamber's opposition to the proposed dismissal of strikers. The Democratic leader, Maria Silv», thereupon formed a Cabinet, whkh granted the demands, thus terminating the strike.—Reuter Service.
THE TROUBLE SPHKADDW,,' Madrid, March 6. '* Newspapers declare that following iftf general strike on the Portuguese railways on February 29 the military opcupied the railways. The Chamber at Lisbon passed a vote of confidence in the Government for the settlement of the dispute, but it is asserted that the situation is becoming more, serious. Various encounters t»tween troops and strikers aro reported. Madrid, March 8. The situation in Portugal continues grave. The strike of public officials is now supported by the metal workers, electricians and others.
