GRADING TEACHERS.
THE NEW DOMINION SCHEME.
The new Dominion grading scheme was the subject of an exhaustive explanation by the Senior Inspector of Schools, Mr. E. K- Mulgan, at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board. Mr. Mulgan .said that a Dominion grading scheme ought to be applicable to any part of New Zealand. Therefore, the standard of appraisement between district.and district should be as nearly uniform a.s humanly possible. It; had been found on examining the grading lists sent in from the various - grading districts, as shown from tables prepared, that the Auckland teachers in certain directions were more highly graded than those in other districts." If the Dominion scheme was to be a real Do-, minion scheme, and was; to be universally applied as a scheme of promotion, it became necessary that uniformity of marking should obtain in the various districts. The only way to bring that about was by legislation, whereby the Director of Education could order the grading officers to bring their standard of marking into conformity with the rest of New Zealand.
