BRITAIN'S DEBT TO AMERICA.
A TOTAL OB' £4,277,000,000. SALE OF ISLANDS SUGGESTED, By Telegraph.—Prcs3 Assn.—Copyright. Received March 9, 5.5 p.m. Washington, March 4. Mr. W. G. McAdoo (formerly Secretary of the Treasury) suggests the United States should purchase British possessions on the Atlantic Coast, including the Bahamas, Bermudas, and Jamaica, giving Britain credit for them against her war debt of £4,277,000,000.
Prohibitionists support the proposal, because Americans are flocking to these Islands, where the liquor trade is flourishing.
British circles view the idea with little favor, and point out that British pride is an insuperable obstacle to the aceepmice of the proposal.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
