WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). ■ March 9. Daring the past ten days the Freezing Works have been busy carting and stacking 1000 tons of guano, shipped from Surprise Island for Borthwick's. The men have been working in shifts. and the work has gone on night and day.
I <lo not wi=h to flatter Mr. W. Trim, road foreman of the Borough Council but must compliment him on the way the roads and footpaths are coming back to something like decent condition since his return to the Council. They were in a deplorable state when he took them over.
The sheep fair, held by the Farmers' Organisation Society at Tikorangi on Monday, proved to be a big success, a large crowd of farmers congregating Over .4000 sheep of good quality were yarded and' realised good prices.' £2OO an acre is the price obtained for a small farm belonging to Mr .7. Armstrong on the Tikorangi Road,'the buyer being Mr. W. Yearbury. I notice that broad has now risen to lid per 4!b. loaf in New Plymouth as well as other towns. I wonder what it will be in Waitara, for it has been lid cash for a number of years! Harvest Festival services were held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday last, the pulpit being taken by Mr. Perkins, who delivered an appropriate sermon. The church was prettily decorated, and fruits, vegetables, home-made bread, cake, etc-, were there in plenty. On Monday evening a sale of prod'tfee took place at the Forester, s ;' Hall anil realised good prices, a pleasant evening being spent. i
