WITH THE RIFLE.
NEW ZEALAND BISLEY. THIRD DAY'S MATCHES. I-OYEDAY LEADING IN' AGGREGATE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, March 6. Generally good "with exceptions" sums up the character of the shooting to-day, which wns devoted to bolt mutches. These have now reached a stage when the aggregates become Interesting, as showing in what direction the 1920 champion may be sought. The figures will be worked out to-morrow. So far H. C. Loreday (3r«) appears to hold the leadership, Worlt started before 8 o'clock In the Auckland match, 300 and 500 yards. The weather was the same ns yesterday, and the earliest men down met (he some difficulties iu the matter of shadowed target faces. Apart from this the conditions were good, and a slight flicker of a breeze from the left steadied, and the sua drew la front of the targets. Even the most captious rifleman could hardly raise a growl, and high scoring was general. After lunch, however, a change came over the scene for a little while. The second stage of the 000 yards of the Wellington match was then taken and the breeze developed strong puffs that upset oven some t.f "the big guns," who had come back with good scores from 500 yards. The later men to go down, however, had better luck, as the wind dropped and shooting became "In easy." At ieaat, those who got together -;»od tallies declared it was easy, but others :ought differently and said so la no measured :-ms. .. lioveday, Fryer, Caldwell, H. Harris, and -Liucan got on 49 at 000 yards, Loveday's store was harder earned than a possible tie got at the same distance in the forenoon owing to the vagaries of the light and wind. The Nelson match, ten shots at SOO yards, SUed out the afternoon, In which, as the prize list shows, good scoring was general. The senior cadet championship was nred during the afternoon, and though the entries were not so large aa had been hoped for, the competition evoked a good deal of interest. It was held under sarvlce conditions at 200 and 500 yards. Those cadets attending the Ijlj meeting, who all came from other districts, had a distinct advantage in having their own rides, and having beeu through the mill on Tbur3day with '.he men. Wellington boya had to use rack rifles Issued on their arrival this afternoon, so obviously they could not expect to keep in the hum with the visitors, though one ansnaged to get fourth place. Two Hamilton lads tied for drat place with 73 out of a possible 80. T.ic result of the match was:— £2 and Gold Medal—Cadet 1. Edgciumbe (Hamilton) 73 £I—Q.M.S. J. R. Balrd (Hamilton) ~ 73 10s—Cadet C. Ashley (Auckland) 11

The shooting In tha Nelsun match .van almost phenomenal for tho winner, who only dropped cue point, and tho slxty-nuvlh man in ihe list was only three points behind him.
