'The isolation ward at the Stratford Hospital was closed to-day, all the influenza patients having been discharged. The fund for providing an X-ray plant for the Stratford Hospital will be augmented by about £23 as the result of a benefit performance recently given in the King's Cinema. Mr. W. P. Kirkwood returned from Wellington to-night, where he has been on business connected with the War Belief Society and Chamber of Commerce conference. At a well attended meeting of the Stratford branch of the A.S.K.S., held on Thursday, a resolution was carried unanimously condemning the action of the Bailway and Defence Departments in connection with the proposed supply of military olothing to railwaymen. Orders for clothing, which were accompanied with j cash, were taken come weeks ago, and up to the present neither cash nor clothing had materialised, and it was now announced that the clothing is not available, and in the meantime prices of all clothing were increasing by more than the rate of interest on the men's cash deposits.
