MOTOR RACING.
TO-DAY'S SPEED CONTESTS. Should the weather remain fine the prospects will be splendid for a good day's racing at the motor cycle sports, which are to be held on the New Plymouth racecourse to-day. The course and grounds are in firstclass order. The local riders commenced to practice on Thursday afternoon, while the visiting riders, including all the leading cracks, were ont the course yesterday afternoon. Among the arrivals on were Coleman, the breaker of world's records, and jNlangham, the Harley-Davidson crack rider, also Shearsley, Sutherland, Cornford and Morrison. The two latter did not appear in the nominations. Cornford (Palmerston NorthJ will ride in the novice race on a heavy-weight, and not having his own machine here, will probably share a machine in the other heavyweight races. 'Morrison {Carterton) rides a 3'/ 3 -h.p. Matchless. «nd his presence will add to the interest of the light-weight events. Gaisford and Sweeney, two other light-weights, arrived yesterday. All the preparations for the meeting are complete, and there is everv indication that the first venture of the Star .Motor Cycle Club in this direction will meet with remarkable success.
