LOSS OF THE TAINUI.
MORE CHARGES DISMISSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christehtvrch, Match 4The charges of negligence against F. S. Needham and C. Smcilie, of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, in corncction with the Tainul disaster were dismissed by Mr. M'Kean, S.M. In his reserved judgment to-day the magistrate held that Needham had no knowledge of the leaky condition of the petrol cargo and Smellie thought the matter was the duty of the captain or mate. The magistrate said it was hard to imagine how a careful captain should have accepted such a cargo, but there was no warrant tor the suggestion that some limitation had been imposed by the owners on the captain. The magistrate accepted the statement of the managing director that no instructions were given to any. employee to accept the cargo or hasten the loading.
