(From Our Own Correspondent)The Horticultural Society's Show, held in Messrs. Thorpe and Callaghan's building, was a good all-round show. The committee at the eleventh -hour were shut out of the Town Hall, and unfortunately adverse weather conditions prevailed. The principal'prize takers were: Cactus dahlias, Mesdames Stfcvenson and Mouri; roses, Mrs. Moore; gladiolus, Mrs. E. M. Morris; fruit. Messrs. Cox anj Tosland; vegetables, Messrs. Cox, Mouri, Martin, Baylis; cooking, Mesdames Mildenhall, Guy, and Miss West; miscellaneous Mrs. M. Hickey and Miss Dashes; the points prize winners in the ■ children's sections were Winnie Mouri, Until Goodey, and Gertie Geary. The Hawera architect, Mr. Duffie. recently visited O'punake and iaspected the Opunakc Bak-y Company's building for the purpose of providing an estimate for a building capable of being converted into a cheese plant. The owner of a tenement applied for possession of same from the tenant, who has a large family, but the Magistrate did not grant the ®rder for possession, as the owner did not require it for his own use. There are a, large number of influenza cases in Opunakc. The doctor and nurse are kept very busy. At the Town Board meeting on Monday evening the members present were: Messrs Trotter (chairman), G. W. Rogers, ,T. P. Burton, E. Thorpe. The Board decided a to have a clean-up week. Permission was granted the secretarv of the Queen Carnival Committee the use of the recreation ground for sports on April 3. The Health Inspector made an inspection of reported nuisances, and will take action- Mr. Hodgson was granted £lO for over charge on section of lease. The foreman was granted an increase, bringing his wages to 15s per day.
