BURGLARY CHARGES.

SERIES OF CASES IN NEW ■PLYMOUTH. A young man named Harold George Howard Gardiner was brought before : Messrs. F. ('. J. Bcllringer and 11. K. Caltloy, .T.'sP., at New Plymouth yesterday morning on a. charge of brenking and entering and theft, a further charge of attempting to break and e;iter into a dwelling, and also with wilful jetting lire to a dwelling house. The charge of breaking and entering and theft and-thai of setting fire to ft dwell! ng were in respect t.O t.he house of Mr- 3\. 11. Bart.ley, electrical engineer to the Borough Council, whose place was entered while unoccupied during the Chrishnrn holidays, and there were stolen from the premises a magazine revolver, a gold seal ring, a ladies' bracelet, two gold brooches, and lady's gold watch, of a total value of £-40. An attempt was also made at the same time to set fire to the place. The other charge was in respect to the dwelling of Mr. P. .J. Flanagan on which an attempt was made to break in on February 4 last. Sub-Inspector Hutton appeared for the police and asked for a remand until the Bth. Mr. F. E. Wilson, who appeared for accused, oA'ered no objection, and the remand was granted. No application was made for bail, as it was understood the police would oppose such on same grounds as in some other cases which were before the Court at the same time.
