"REALITIES OF WAR."
NEW BOOK BY PHILIP GIBBjS. By TafcfTii*.—Press Assn.—Copyrlgnt. London, Feb. 26. Mr. Philip Gibbs' new book, "Realities of War," has made a strong impression. It consist* largely of caustic criticisms of Cenerals and bitter revelations of disasters which could not be told during the censorship. Mr. Gibbs castigates the training of the officers of the regular army, which produced specimens with the brains of canaries and the manners of Potsdam, yet they formed a close corporation, from whiah brilliant civilians were kept until towards the end of the war. Mr. Gibbs mentions Generals Hobbs, Mbnash and Currie as instances of the success of unprofessional soldiers when given a chance. His descriptions of Neuve Chappelle, Loos, Bulleeourt and Ypres make grim reading. The British High Command only learned by ghastly mistakes oft-repeated", for which slaughtered British youths paid the penalty.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
