INCREASE OP PENSIONS REFUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Ann—Copyright. London, Feb. 26. In ine House of Commons, upon the notion favoring the increase of police pensions equivalent to the cost of living, the Government suffered defeat by 183 votes to 57. A& Edward Shortt, K.C. (Home SecMtoar) urged that the police were in the Midi position as the army, navy and civil service, therefore the concessions could not be granted to them. The proposal would involve a capital sum of 50 million*.
