BIRTHS AND DEATHS.

NEW PLYMOUTH RETURNS. •The vital statistics for the New Plymouth district for the month of February show increases over the same month last year in every respect. The births only show an increase of one, while tho deaths exceed the total for 1010 by eight, but the excess of births over deaths is nineteen. The figures are as follow, ths returns for February last year being also given:— ' ' t 1020. 1010. Births ;u 30 Deaths 12 4 Marriages 17 10 This brings the number of births recorded this year to 05—an unusually large number, which shows an increase of 30 over tho births for the first two months of last year. The deaths for the same period total 10, which is three less than for the same period last year. Marriages show a marked increase, the total for 1920 being seventeen in excess of that for last year. HAWERA RETURNS. For the month of February the vital statistics for Hawera were as follows, the figures for the corresponding month of last year being given in parentheses; Marriages 7 (1), births 28 (19), and deaths 0 (3).
