HAWERA CADETS' CARNIVAL. The swimming carnival promoted by the Hawera Senior Cadets, in aid of their sports fund, took place at the public batlm on Wednesday night. There was a large attendance, the seating accommodation being taxed to its utmost. _ Captain Dallinger said the primary' bbject of the sports was to get funds for 'the furthering of competition amongst the cadets. He wished to correct the impression that the work'of the Defence men commenced on parade and finished when the parade was over. Tlys.was not so, and athletic meetings, as part of cadets' training, were to be held in New Plymouth, Stratford and Hawera, and at the New Plymouth High School. These meetings would be open to all cadets, Legion of Frontiersmen, Territorials and Boy Scouts, and lie hoped Hawera would put in a team that would be a credit to 'parents and the town. It was also hoped to hold a boxing tournament during the winter months. The many close finishes testified to the good work of the handieappera. Pesults:— School Boys! Handicap, 25yds—P.
