THE PRICE OF WHEAT.

A CONFERENCE OP GROWERS. NO DECISION ANNOUNCED. By Telegraph.—Press .Association. Cliristchureli, Lust Night. A conference of delegates from the various wheat growing districts of Canterbury and Otago was held to-day, to consider the question of making a recommendation to the Government respecting the price of wheat for 11)21. Mr. D. Jones, M.P., president of the North Canterbury Farmers' Union, presided. The Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister for Agriculture, was also present. It was decided the proceedings should be held in camera. Before the Press representatives withdrew, the chairman stated that some feeling had been engendered amongst wheat growers as a result of the last conference. The feeling had been that farmers were not getting the market rates. He wished to emphasise that the committee appointed did not go back on the larger meeting. The representatives of the Board of Trade had placed before the meeting a price at which they could land Australian wheat in New Zealand, and the Government had offers of wheat below the cabled market price from Australia. The committee closed with the Prime Minister upon a basis of the price at which the New Zealand Government could land wheat from the Commonwealth. The Minister conferred for about two hours with the delegates. An official report afterwards given to the Press was that an arrangement was come to which will be made public after Mr. Nosworthy has had an opportunity of discussing it with hisj colleagues. THE PRICES UNCHANGED. v AN UNOFFICIAL STATEMENT. Christchurch, Last Night. The Press understands unofficially that to-day's wheat conference arranged that next season'-, prices should be the prices as fixed for this season's crops, namely, 7s 3d, 7s 6d and 7s f)d per bushel, but at f.o.b. No official announcement is forthcoming to-night.
