300,000 ACRES TO BE SETTLED. SURVEYS OF OUTLETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister for Lands, who visited Urewera. last week, states he is now formulating proposals with a view to the early settlement of the 300,000 acres already purchased by the Government. lie proposes the work of partitioning 'the native interests and the Government interests shall he taken in hand as soon as possible. He will have .surveys made of the main outlets and he anticipates that one road will follow the Whakalane river valley, and' that, another will come out near Waimann. The Minister states further that he intends to arrange that the Urewera lands benefited by the opening up of the country shall bear a share of the cost.
