SUPPLY OF BUTTER.
LOCAL SHORTAGE (POSSIBLE, QUESTION OP HOME PURCHASE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. The possibility of a shortage of butfer for local consumption durinn- the coming winter has been discussed. * It will be remembered that (here was a shortage at the end of last -winter, o\ving to heavy exports earlier in the yo«r. A rise in the export price, owing to the termination of the Imperial contract at the end of July next, might have a prejudicial effect on,, local supplies towards the end of the winter. The Minister for Agriculture said today that the Prime Minister was not yet able to give a decision as to what would be done when the present Imperial contract ended on July 31." He was in communication with the Imperial Government, and until the question of whether or not Britain would make a further purchase of New Zealand butter was settled, lie could not deal with tho jjuestion of the control o* the price of butter for consumption In Now Zealand.
