TRIP TO THE ISLANDS.
PARLIAMENTARY PARTY'S TRIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 25. A" wireless message from the Mokoia states that a heavy swell on Saturday made travel uncomfortable. Sunday broke clear, with a following wind. On Friday Commissioner Platta gave an interesting lecture on the Cook Islands. Wireless messages tell of extensive preparations of welcome at Rarotonga, where deputations from the Island Council, settlers, native fruit growers, and European trades await the visitors. It is reported that a conflict has arisen between the latter and the Commissioner over the policy of the fruit trade. Mr. Massey's radio message about the coal settlement was applauded on its receipt, and members heartily endorsed Sir James Allen's congratulatory reply. There is no padre aboard, but an Impressive Sunday service was conducted, Sir James Allen reading the lesson and Mr. Isitt preaching the sermon. The vessel will probably arrive at Rarotonga on Tuesday evening. The delay is due to poor coal. The party is realising the distance separating New Zealand and its dependencies.
