A BRITISH ADVANCE. ll T«l«eraph.—Presj Asjn.—Copyrij&t. Delhi, Feb. 22. A deputation from Sha-manl: came in offering 84 rifles instead of 150. The offer was refused, and soon after midnight General Lucas' force moved out and drove out the Mahsuds from the villages. We were subjected to troublesome fire from,the tribesmen iaking advantage of cover for sniping. A larye body of tribesmen loming on lit waves got no nearer than 100 yards Owing to our Lewis guns and grenades. Lonodn, Feb. 21. The British column advancing on Waziristan has reached Makin, the second largest Mahsud village. Our covering parties were much harassed by snipers, suffering some loss, but five groups of fortified hamlets were demolished with considerable loss to the tribesmen. The rifles and fines promised to be delivered by the Mahsuds have not yet been handed in.—Aus#»Z. Cable Assn.
