(From Our Own Correspondent). February 21. The Rowing Club's Social on Wednesday evening, owing to the inclemency of the weather, was not largely attended. The trophies won by the crews at the local club competitions were presented by Mr. G. R. Croll, a one-time rowing enthusiast of the local club. He hoped they would be successful in winning many more competitions. He wished the crew competing at Wanganni on Saturday the best of luckThe local Fire Brigadesmen, although not successful in pulling off any events at the Fire Brigades demonstration at Stratford on Thursday last, at least beat more tlian beat them, having gained two thirds, and were the fastest in the Baby Rescue, but owing to a man's head being where his neck should be in this particular competition they were disqualified. I hope the local competitors will keep together. They are a good combination, and should get I ready for the next Now Zealand demonstration. On Friday evening the Allan Wilkie Dramatic Company presented the "Midnight Wedding" to a well filled house. They have a very powerful company. 411 an Wilkie and Miss Frediswyde Hun-ter-Watts fairly cantirated the audience with their splendid acting, as also di Bobo with his comicalities. The s,s. Wetere leaves again on Sunday for (Puponga for another shipment of coal. Mr. McGarvey, who has been on the local Dost and telegraph staff for a number of years, is being transferred to the Stratford office. His successor is Mr. W. H. Roberts, who was senior officer here tefore the war.
