A reel of cotton has advanced from 2'/.d to lOd, although Coats' made a profit of .-€3,995,000 last yea:-. The Daily Express states the Profiteering Sub-Committee is reporting that even a charge of 7Ad was not. justified. The prices of cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco have again advanced, though the Imperial Tobacco Company in 1919 made a profit of £4,082,000. Clothing is tending upward; also butter, and fares by taxi-cabs, trams, and 'buses. Almost the only item that is cheaper is eggs, which are retailing at 3d each instead of 5d each during war time, — Aus-N.Z. Cable Assn.
