FIRE BRIGADES' ASSN.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tlie annual meeting and conference, tf the Taranaki Uniied Fire - Brigades' Association was held at Stratford en Wednesday evening. The president, Fireman J-. Champion, was in the chair, and the following delegates were present:—Captain \V. H. Griffiths (Fitzroy), Fireman F. Nieholls (New Plymouth), Captain G. White, (Manaia), Secretary P' T. Aitken (Stratfordj, Fireman Patten (Waitara), Superintendent W. H. Ward and DeputySuperintendent A. Melville (ICaponga), Superintendent G. W, Petlit (Hawera), and Fireman A. F. Hinch (Elthim). Superintendent T: G. Grubb (Stratford), Superintendent H. Nuttall (Eitham), and Fireman A. M. Burrows (Eitham), secretary of the Association, were also present. The Mayor of Stratford (Mr. J_ W. McMillan) extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. The annual report congratulated the Association on its prosperity. The executive expressed regret at the death of Fireman J. B, Crossan, of Stratford (who had received his twenty-five years' gold star a few days before his death), and of Fireman J. Keen, of Hawera. The report congratulated Lieut. Rowson, of Stratford, on receiving the twentv-five years' gold star, and also Lieut. Grant, of Hawera, on receiving the distinction of V.C. The number of brigades in tlie Association was eleven, all of which had fulfilled their financial obligations, Tlie annual balance sheet showed a credit balance of £3l 4s. Tlie report and balance sheet were adopted. It was decided to send- a letter of condolence to the widow and relatives of the late Fireman Crossan, also to Mrs. R. H. Tiellringer and family on the death of Fireman Uellringer, who was for nine years secretary of tlie Fitzroy Brigade and a member for fifteen years. The following were elected ofiieebearprs:—President, Captain Ward (Kaponga); senior vice-president. Secretary Hinch (l'Jthani): junior Superintendent Petlit (Hawera)! treasurer. Superintendent X'ltf.ail (Eltliam|: secretary, Fireman Tbrriv.v* (Eitham): auditors. Superintendent Grubb (Stratford), and Captain GritiiUis (New Plymouth).
The next conference was fixed to he held at Eitham.
