CHARGE OF BURGLARY. By Telegraph.—l'ress Association. Gisborne, Feb. 19. Frank Ballar, alias Frank Deune, charged with burglary at Opotiki, was before the Police Court to-day and was remanded to Opotiki.
PURCHASE OF MINING SCRIP. Wellington, Feb. 19, In the Supreme Court, Angelina Bernard, of Lyall Bay, sought to recover from William Browning, engineer, of Wellington, £GOO damages for alleged fradulent misrepresentation, whereby plaintiff was induced to purchase for £SOO certain mining scrip in a Wostland proposition known as Bagley's Reward Gold Mining Company, The plaintiff, in her evidence, said that her legal name was Diamond. Her first husband's name was Bernard, and since his death witness had carried on his various business enterprises, including a picture theatre at Stratford, under the name of Madame Bernard. 'The jury's verdict was that the defendant had distinctly misrepresented the value of the shares, and awarded plaintiff £SOO damages, with costs.
