STEAMER STRANDED.

ASHORE NEAR OPOTIKI. By Telegraph,—Press Association. , Opotiki, Feb. 19. ine steamer Ngatiawa, when crossing the bar at five o'clock yesterday became stranded on the western spit. EfjS re^oat h er were unsuccessful, and the vessel is now almost high and dry at low water. The male passengers landed on the beach last night, but the ladv passengers are still on board, awaiting low water and daylight. The liorses for the races to-morrow, which were aboard the vessel, have been landed. The Ngatiawa and another vessel have been similarly stranded on previous occasions.
