MINING INTERESTS DISCUSSED.

A. flilruth's interest in the Arrino lease and the Daly River copper mine. air. Barratt asked Dr. Gilruth: "Are we to understand that you were in the Arrino concern or any'other out of a desire to develop mining and not for profit?" Dr. Gilruth: "Put it that wav, if you please." Mr. Justice Ewing: "Why did not you* putting aside fancy standards, and as de-r-eiit honest men, repay the Government the money advanced nominally to Hope?" In reply Dr. Gilruth was understood to say something, about mining development advances being- a charge 011 tho mine, not on individuals. Mr. Barratt: "Do you think it proper that you, as Administrator, should be surreptitiously dealing with mining ventures? Would yon object to other Government servants having interests in that way?" Dr. flljrnth: "No. I do not object to it public servant having mining interests,"
