CAILLAUX TRIAL OPENS, AN HISTORIC CASE. By Telegnpb:—Press- Assn.—Copyrlgl Paris, Feb. • M. Bourgeois, President of the senate, presided to-day at the opening of the trial of M. C&illaux before the SenAte. The procedure will follow that of the j French criminal courts. First the ac-' ctlsAtion will be read, then the accused will be examined, then the evidence on both sides will be heard. The accusation charges M. Caillaux With having, since the declaration of war, worked against the external security of the State by manoeuvres, machinations , and intelligences with the enemy, there- j by assisting the enemy's military cause. The trial is likely to last four months and to prove one of the historic trials of the world. The whole of the recent > history of France will be reviewed.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asen.
