FREEZING WORKERS.
"INCREASES IN PAY. By Telegraph.—Pres9 Association. Christchureh, Last Night. . A conference was held to-day between representatives of the South Island Associated. Freezing Companies and the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades' Union regarding an increase of wages. ■ Mr. Ellis (secretary of the Union) stated afterwards that the employers offered a ten per cent, rise to.hourly and weekly workers, and a 7$ per cent, rise to piece workers in both industries, inclusive.of overtime. This was similar' to; the oli'er made recently at the Welling-., ton Coiu'erence. ;, , This offer was not accepted today by the Freezing Works Federation, but it is understood the oompanies intend to pay; the same rates as were offered at the Wellington Conference, and the pay in-; creases in the existing agreement frbm' February Ist.
