BOTH STEAMERS HELD"© * DELAY TO MAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Niffct., Owing to trouble with the firemen, the ferry steamer Maori has not yet departed for Lyttelton. It is consMered there is very little chance of her sailing to-night. It now transpires the Maori hold-up Is due to the firemen's complaints about the boilers, and the men declined to take the ship to sea until repairs were affected. In spite of a certificate by> two Government inspectors that tb« boilers were quite right the men refused to sr.il. Consequently five hundred passengers are held up and many are walking Wellington streets. It is said that though the firemen refused to cpnvey passengers to Lyttelton they were quite ready to take the ship to Port Chalmers for repairs. v , Chriatchuroh, Last Night. An ordinary seaman on the feiry steamer Mararoa reported sfick this morning and a doctor diagnosed the case as mild influenza. The man was able to walk to the train to go into hospital in Christehurch. The men's quarters in the Mararoa were fumigated during the day, and the Union officials were agreeable to the men sailing in the ship to-night, but the men themselves refused to go until the vessel had been thoroughly fumigated from end to end. The whole of the crew Wsnt ashora, and fumigation work, is being carried out to-night. The Mararoa's sailing for Wellington is postponed till tomorrow night. The Wakatu took (ha North Island mails, but she calls at Kftikoura, and will not reach Wellington until to-morrow night.
