HOTEL ROBBERY.
THEFXS AT THE WHITE HART. many rooms ransacked. A thief secured several large sums Df money by ransacking more than half rooms in the White Hart Hotel in the early hours of yesterday morning. One guest was relieved of £3O, another of £2O, and another of £lO, while several other visitors lost smaller sums. There were about forty people staying in the hotel at the time, and it is stated that more than half the rooms were entered. The gentlemen guests appear to have suffered the most, their clothes having been gone through and their 1 money removed. In other rooms, svhere the occupiers did not have money in their clothes, there were signs of an intruder having paid a visit during the night. The thief was seen, but made good his escape before an alarm could be given. One of the guests was disturbed about four o'clock yesterday morning, and lie immediately became aware that there was someone in his room. He lumped out of bed, and called out, but the thief got away. There are no signs of any visit having heen paid to the office by the thief, at the safe had not been tampered with. The thief is believed to be one of a large number of undesirables who were in New Plymouth for the races.
