PLEA FOR A GERMAN.
TRIAL OF GENERAL VON SANDERS. AN AUTHOR OF ATROCITIES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—-Copyright. Received Feb. 4, 2.25 p.m. London, Feb. 3. , General Sir lan Hamilton's letter has produced a crop of protests. One writer in the Press charges Sir lan Hamilton with gross contempt of court, pointing out that the Allies would not have charged General von Sanders if there was not strong evidence justifying the trial.
An English captain from Palestine writes: "Von Sanders was responsible for the greater part of the atrocities in Armenia and Syria, where he ruthlessly meted out death."—-Times Service.
[General Sir lan Hamilton, in a letter to the newspapers, stated General von Sanders' name appears on .the black list. "I feel, sure that I speak for the troops who fought at the Dardanelles when 1 say they do not wish him to be tried," he wrote, ■ "He was a clean fighter, and he played- fair during, our brief armistice. He never shelled clearing stations or hospital ships. I appeal to a gener-ous-minded public to see General von Sanders left severely alone."]
