HUNGER IN AUSTRIA.
STARVING MULTITUDES. London, Jan. 5. The correspondent of the Times at Vienna, who visited the forest of Dornbaeh, states that lie witnessed a nightmare sight. An unending procession of wan aad gaunt people of ail ages, with pinched, yellow-green faces, and clad in drenched rags, streamed past in the snow and rain, carrying bundles of fuel, which they had gathered in the forest. Some were so weak that they were unable to walk, and staggered and fell prostrate beneath their burdens. Others glanced at them indifferently, unheeding them and ottering no help. They were Carrying their own troubles and aching hearts. The whole population is grievously suffering. There are not sufficient Government rations for a week, and the supply will last only three days, providing the barest subsistence. Everybody is compelled to pay huge sums, or to sell their cherished possessions in order to purchase extras sufficient to enaDle them to live. The coal situation is unprecedentedly critical. All passenger trains have been stopped for the past ten days, and there is a likelihood of the early total cessation of electric light and the tram\vay» in Vienna.
