BOY SCOUTS.

TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIPS. GATHERING AT INGLEWOOD. Nowhere in Taranaki is the scout movement in a more flourishing condition than at Inglewood, and this is largely due to the keen interest taken in the movement by Provincial Scout Commissioner W. H. Humphrey, and his band of officers, who feel themselves well recompensed for their work by the loyal assistance given them by the residents of Inglewood. This appreciation of the work of the ccout movement was again manifest yesterday by the attendance, despite counter attractions, of Inglewood residents at the third annual scout championship sports, which were held in the Inglewood Recreation Ground. A glance at i the splendid array of prizes, which ranged from wristlet watches to books, gave evidence of the liberality of the residents towards the scouts. Messrs. C. O'Carroll and A. B. Gamlin, who took charge of that department, had no trouble in collecting close on £3O. The smoothness with which the sports were run was a tribute to the organising ability of the Commissioner and his assistants, Scoutmasters J. Harris, P. Glennie, V. Arthur, and Junior Scoutmaster B. Burgess, and provincial secretary R. Henderson.

There was keen competition in all events, additional interest being added by the presence of patrols from St. Mary's (New 'Plymouth), under Assist-ant-Scoutmaster Hopkins, and from New Plymouth troop, under Scoutmaster Scott. The officials for the day were all prominent townsmen, nearly all disassociated with the movement, and they got through their arduous duties well. Thev comprised: Starter, P- Glennie; timekeeper, C- R. O'Carroll; judges, F. H. Brown, R. Geddes, L. Patterson, J. Thomas, J. Lindsay, R. Darlow, and Dr. MeCallum; referee for boxing, HJ Brown. A ladies' committee, comprising Mesdames M. Sutherland, L. Sutherland, Evans, Gow, Wilson, Hooper, Robb, T. and G. Lindsay, Allen, B. Evitts, K. Humphrey, D. and M. Julian, A. Lister, K.
