MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

YESTERDAY'S SITTING. A sitting of the New Plymouth Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., when the following matters were dealt with;— LAND AGENTS 1 LICENSES. Land agents' licenses were granted to Messrs. P. Fitzherbert and L. B. Webster. STRAYING CATTLE. For allowing cattle to wander on the county roads. P. Copestake and Joe Schroedcr were, on the information of the ranger (Mr. B. Tippins), fined 40/eadi and costs, amounting to £1 14/6 in the former and 17/6 in the latter case. BOROUGH BY-LAWS. On the information of Mr. E. C. King, inspector for the Borough of New Plymouth, fines were imposed on the following for breaches of various by-laws: —Walter Rokstrow, exceeding the speed limit, 40/- (costs 7/-); John Cavaney, Wm. Dean, Bruce Joll and Edgar Lobb, for cycling ait night without lights, 20/- (costs 7/-J each. BREACH OF RAILWAY BY-LAW. For driving a motor car along a public road, over a railway crossing at other than a walking pace, while a train was approaching within half a mile of the crossing, contrary to the Railway Bylaw N. 30, A. W. Blanchard was, on the information of the police, fined 40/(costs 7/-). PROHIBITION ORDER. A, prohibition order, to take effect in the Taranaki and Waitara districts, was issued against John G. Blane. John Joseph Larkin, a prohibited person, pleaded guilty to being found on licensed premises during the currency of his order, and also with procuring liquor. He was convicted and discharged' on the first charge, and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon on the second. THEFT OF A HAT. Leo. F. Bradley, a lad of 1(1 years of age, a jockey's apprentice, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a Stetson hat, valued at £4 10/-, from a Stratford hotel. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called' upon within 12 months, during the first six months of which he was required to report weekly to Detective Fitzgibbon. He was also ordered to refund the sum of £2 10/-. which he had received as payment for the hat, which he had sold. BREACH OF MAINTENANCE ORDER. On a charge of failing to comply with an order for maintenance of his wife, Arthur Ireland, who did not appear, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Mr. C. H. Croker appeared for the complainant (Francis Hodson, father-in-law of defendant). It was stated that defendant had not been seen since the proceedings had been adjourned some weeks previously. *
