POLYNESIAN SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Polynesian Society was held yesterday afternoon, there being present, Mr. S. Percy Smith (president), Dr. Home, Captains Wilson and Waller, Messrs. L. Newman, R. C. Hughes, and W. W. Smith (secretary). The chairman, in the course of his annual report, stated the past year had been an uneventful one. The. work of accumulating records of the history of the Polynesian races had been continued steadily, and the year had seen the publication of the 28th volume of the Society's "Journal." There had been many applications for the whole series of volumes, but unfortunately many of the early numbers are out of print. He considered it would be worth while having those numbers reprinted. The growth of the library was referred to. and satisfaction expressed that quite a number of members were taking advantage of it during the days on which it \b open. Suitable reference was made to members who had died durino- the year, the members including Lt.-Col, W E. Gudgeon, CM.G., who was the first chairman of the Society, the Revs. P. H. Andrew and M. T. Salmon, M. A. Lovord, Mrs. A. Barron, Mr. J. P. Cooke, and Sir John Denniston. Twenty-two ordinary and two corresponding members were elected during the year, the total membership now being 201,-an increase of 18 on the previous year's figures. The place on the Council vacated by Mr. J. B. Roy was filled by the appointment of Mr, W. H. Skinner.
The financial position of the Society was very (satisfactory, there being a credit balance of £47 2s sd. The capital account now stands at £154 17s ij.
