RESIGNATION OF MR. BARNES. A DELICATE POSITION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 28, 9.45 p.m. London, Jan. 27. It is understood that the resignation of Mr G. N. Barnes (Minister of the Cabinet without portfolio) is in the Premier's hands. Mr. Barnes is apparently not content longer to hold Cabinet rank without a portfolio, but Mr. Lloyd George is endeavoring to get his resignation reconsidered. Meanwhile other Ministerial offices may be reviewed. Mr. Barnes states that he does not contemplate political retirement. His retirement would finish any hopes Mr. Lloyd George entertained Of strengthening his position with Labor. Mr. Barnes took Mr. Arthur Henderson's place in the War Cabinet, despite strong Labor opposition, but to-day he is understood to be in sympathy with Lord Birkenhead's (Lord Chancellor) recent Indictment as to the invertebrate condition of the Coalition Government.— Aus.-N.Z.
