FUTURE OF ARMENIA.

ALLIES RECOGNISE THE REPUBLIC By Telegraph.—Press Association. Received Jan. 27, 8.15 p.m. London, Jan. 22. The Allies have decided to recognise the independence of the Armenian Republic, with the capital at Erivan. The question of boundaries has not yet been settled, but, the recognition is not to prejudice any decision later reached in regard to Turkish Armenia.— Reuter Service.

The inhabitants, which number 30,000, are chiefly Armenians, Persians, and Tartars. In 1827 Erivan was taken from Persia by Russia.]
