EMPIRE POLICY.
VOICE OF THE DOMINIONS. LONDON MINISTER NECESSARY. By Telegraph.—Press Aasn.- Copyt'sUt, Received Jan. 27, 10.25 p.m. London, Jan. 20. Mr. Murdoch says expectations of an Imperial Conference being held in 1920 are dwindling in official circles. It is stated many important subjects arc listed for discussion, but the physical difficulties of getting the Dominion Premiers to London are believed to be insuperable. A leading Minister connected with the Colonial Office admitted, in conversation, that the theory that the Dominions are equal nations is not working well in practice. There is all the paraphernalia of the Dominions' delegates signing Treaties with separate seals, yet in great questions of Empire policy, such as the attitude towards Russia and the future of Constantinople, they are not consulted. He suggested the Dominion Premiers should permit a second Minister to represent them sometimes in London, though he admitted this involved a trusted partnership such as existed in the case of the late Mr. Botha and General Smuts.—United Service.
