The sub-committee, which is investigating the price of wool, have issued a statement inviting the public to await the report of the sub-committee. They point out that no investigation has yet begun regarding the cost of production and distribution of yarns and the profits arising from this operation. It is therefore suggested that any reports about the profits on yarn are only guesswork, and therefore misleading.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
SHORTAGE OF WHEAT. Sydney, Jan. 21. - It i? officially estimated that New South Wales will require 11 million bushels of wheat to make up the local shortage. The present rains are the best and most widely spread for years. The monsoonal disturbance is still active and, with the exception of a portion of Westralia, the whole continent has benefited and the nearer drought areas are fully relieved, while the out-back areas are pulling up the averages of the past two arid years. Agriculturalists and pastoralists are jubilant.
GENERAL BIRDWOOD. Melbourne, Jan. 21. General Birdwood was enthusiastically welcomed', the soldiers chairing him to the platform in the Domain camp. After his speech they pulled his car when en route to make his official call on the Governor.
