Hughes' suggestion, a further conference of the parties to the marine engineers' strike was held today. It is understood a basis of compromise was reached embodying a slight advance on the New Zealand rates. This will be submitted to the men, and a further conference will be held on Friday. It is understood there are chances of acceptance, with a hope that ships will be iranned on Cable Assn.
