NITROGEN PRODUCTS.
POSSIBILITIES OF MANUFACTURE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrlsht. London, Jan. 15. The final report of the investigations of the Nitrogen Products Committee point to the definite conclusion that the industry will practically make the British Empire independent of external supplies of nitrogen. Canada, with exceptional water-power accessible from the seaboard, could produce much more cheaply than anywhere in the world. New Zealand and Tasmania, also offer possibilities of the cheap manufacture of synthetic nitrogen products, also the large deposits of lowgrade coal in Australia will furnish ammonium sulphate. The committee strongly advises that, in the light of war experiences, the country should not risk depending on Chilian nitrates. From a military point of view it would probably be wise to concentrate the major installations in Britain with supplementary installations throughout the Empire, and, if lK'ii.'essarv, to create an Imperial authority carefully to study the Empire requirements—Aus.-N.Z.
