BUTTER AT HOME.
PROSPECTS FOR NEW ZEALAND. INCREASED PRICE EXPECTED. By Telegraph.—rress Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 15. Nothing has been settleil with the Food Controller regarding future contracts for New Zealand butter. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, in an interview, states tliat the situation is exceedingly firm, in view of the fact that the home butter-maker has been freed from control, and of the Controller's recently expressed opinion that butter should not exceed 4s od per pound. The farmers suggested that it should be 6s. The opinion held is that prices are likely to run to anything between 3s Cd and ss. There is great demand for good butter and New Zealand, with the reputation of her produce, can command a good price. As there has been a reduction of the cattle in European countries amounting to millions, it will take rears to restore normal production. Even if the Controller does uot make a reasonable offer for next season's butter, New Zealand produce will be on safe ground because of the open market. It is expected that the shipping situation will then be easier and producers may expect a considerable increase in the price obtained under the existing contract— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
