ATHLETICS.
TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA Tho following will comprise the team of athletes to represent the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at the forthcoming Ausralasian championship meeting at Sydney:— 100, 220, and 440 yards: S. Lindsay, of Chrlstchurch. Hurdles, 10(1 yards, and long jump: H. E. JVUson, of Wellington. Quarter, half, and mile: A, W. Donmer, of Auckland. Throwing the hammer: J. M'Hohn, of Wei-1 llncton. Pole-vaulting: G. Harvey, of Wellington. Putting the shot: P. Munro, of Wellington. Walking—mile and three miles: A. B. Slevsvrlght, of Wellington. The team was selected by Messrs W. H. Pollock, B. Guise, and M. Burnett before being confirmed by the council of the association. The selectors had Included A. E. Sutherland In the team, but on account of tliere being no hop, step, and jump among tho Australasian championships to bo decided, his name was subsequently dropped. Lindsay Is already In Australia. G. Davidson, of Auckland, was also considered, but while recognising that he Is something out of the ordinary, tile selectors decided against him on the score of expense, seeing also that Lindsay, who is a sprinter of equal merit, Is already in Australia. It will, however, be quite open to the Auckland association to scad Davidson at Iheir own expense. The team Is due to leave by the Manuka on January 22 for Sydney, where they will compote at the big meeting on January 31 and February 7. If the Manuka Is delayed In sailing till January 23 the teaim will compete at tho Walrarapa meeting at Mastertou on January 22. Mr. A. Davles, of Wellington, will accompany the team as manager.
