TRAGIC WRECK.
THE LOSS OF THE AFRIQUE. WOMEN AND CHILDREN LOST. j ■■ ' By Tetegrapli.—Press Assn,—Copyright. Received Jan. 18, 5.5 p.m. Paris, Jan. 14. There are forty-three survivors from the Afrique. There is no hope for any of the others of the total of 599 on board.--Times Service. Received Jan. 18, 11.40 p.m. Paris, Jan. 15. There were six hundred passengers and crew on board the Afrique, and there are only forty-three survivors. There is practically no hope of other rescues. Several empty boats and many rafts wore found; also a boat with nine corpses and a raft with three hats. The public draws melancholy conclusions from the fact that not a woman or a child survived. The majority of the survivora consisted of the crew and Singalese soldiers.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
