THE RAILWAYS.
MEN ACCEPT OFFER. STATEMENT OP THE TERMS. By Telemph—Press Assn.—Copfrltbt. Received Jan. 17, 12.10 a.m. London, Jan. 15. The railwaymen's leaders by a narrow majority, accepted the settlement on the basis of the Government's offer. An official statement of the terms accepted by the railwaymen shows that the Government has not departed from the principle of basing standard tAtes on the average, instead of on the highest prewar rate, as demanded by the railwaymen. The Government will also adhere to its sliding scale based on the cost of living, but agrees to a graduated increase in war wages of grades not included in the Government's proposals. The Government further agrees to extend the principle of the settlement to the Irish railways.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
