GOODS OF ENEMY ORIGIN.

BUSINESS MEN'S ATTITUDE. The attitude of the Associated Chambers of Commerce on the question of goods coming into New Zealand from former enemy countries was brought to the notice of the executive of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. It was stated in a communication received from a well-known business man in the city that in 1915 the following resolutions were forwarded to the Government by the Associated Chambers rf Commerce of New Zealand: (1) All merchandise from whatsoever source shall be indelibly branded with (he name of the country of origin; (2) all goods from overseas shall be accompanied by a consular certificate of origin; and (3) that for the information of British and Dominion manufacturers, all enemy goods imported into the Dominion shall be gazetted, thus affording a source from which republication of the information may be. effected. The suggestion was made by the writer of the letter that while the contention to repatriate interned aliens was reasonable, it should also be made compulsory for all aliens to carry a passport for production to any constable or justice of the peace on demand.
