LOSS OF THE AFRIQUE. FOUR HUNDRED MISSING. gy Telegraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright. London, Jan. 13. The Afrique was wrecked midway between Ushant and Bayonne, near Isle De Re and Isle Doleron, which lie off La Rochelle harbor, whence the Afrique was making for the open sea through a shallow rocky neighborhood. It is reported that numerous rafts have been sighted carrying rescued passengers and the captain of the ship.— Times Service. Paris, Jan. 15. The liner Afrique was damaged during a gale in the Bay of Biscay, and was returning to port when she struck a rock and sank. Four hundred of those on board are missing, but it is hoped that a number of them will be rescued from boats and rafts.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [The Afrique sank in a storm when putting back in a damaged state on a voyage from ITrance to West Africa. She had 465 passengers, of whom 26 were reported safe.]
