BAD WEATHER IN SYDNEY. GREAT INTEREST IN CONTEST. By Telepraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright. Received Jan. 14, 7.15 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 11. The attendance at the Davis Cup contests promises to be a record. Bookings of seats have been extremely heavy, and Big orowds daily watch the teams practising. Both sides have put in much strenuous preparation and are reported to be in first-class trim. The weather outlook is not promising-. On Friday there was a fierce thunderstorm, a flooding downpour swept the city last night, and to-day is showery. However, the courts are protected by tarpaulin coverings and have not suffered. By mutual consent Mr. M. H. Marsh has been appointed referee.—Aus.-N.Z. ' Cable Assn. The Davis Cup contest, between Australasia (holders) and British Isles (challengers), commences in Sydnoy this week. The British team consists of Lowe, Kingscote, and Beamish. It is expected Lowe and Kingscote will play in the singles and Beamish will pair with Kingscote in the doubles. Brookes and Patterson will be the strongest two of the Australian team, the other two members being Thomas and Anderson.
