ANOTHER ASSASSIN FAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 11, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 8. An unknown person fired a revolver at Sir Alfred Dobbin, ex-High Sheriff of Cork, who will be remembered for we famous fight he put up against twelve of the Larkin Irish transporters in Dublin. Sir Alfred Dobbin had a very narrow escape, the bullet penetrating his clothing, being stopped by a button. His assailant escaped.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. HOME RULE CONDEMNED. London, Jan. 8. The Irish Government has dismissed Sir Joseph Byrne, Inspector of Constabulary. The workers of Dublin refuse to carry petrol for the Government, with the result that trade is greatly hampered. Congestion of the docks is unprecedented and a military guard is necessary whenever petrol is moved. The Irish Unionist Alliance, representing Southern Unionists, unanimously condemned the Government's Home Rule Bill.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
